Okeayyyyyy that's insane

I thought I'm the only one walking out that room with a terrible laser shoot.

whoa... how was it set up? if possible could you "draw" it using the following symbols? -_|

Like I said above, the barrier was ~5cm in front of the target, and about 4 cm wide. There wasn't much space between it and the wall. A lot of the teams that missed were using templates that assumed the barrier would be further out. Here's a breakdown of the general distance scores teams got:

0mm: 1 team
1-10mm: 11 teams
11-20mm: 4 teams
21-30mm: 5 teams
31-60mm: 5 teams
61-120mm: 7 teams
>120mm: 9 teams
"Misses": 25 teams

Huh, I got 13th overall and ~15th on the laser shoot. I probably could have gotten ~5mm, but I was scared of winding up in the "Miss" category

How long did it take for the team that got 0mm to set up the field? And was it the winning team of the event?

180 seconds. They placed 32nd. One team got 2 mm in 15 seconds.

I just calculated the correlation between time and distance and got 0.17, which means the 2 variables essentially weren't related to each other in any way.

Just to make sure I understand correctly: You stated that the barrier was ~5 cm from the target. This means that it was also ~51 cm away from the laser right?

The biggest TENTATIVE fundamental changes are allowing for more mirrors and barriers and removing time as a scoring factor. There are lots of other incremental changes as well, but those mainly reinforce the spirit of the rules or the clarifications that were issued this year.
