Has anyone else got a freedom flight kit fairly recently? We got one and noticed that the hooks on the propellers are different than the ones we received earlier since they aren't covered with the plastic around them. When we try to wind, it seems like the rubber often just slips off the hook after around 50-60 winds. Does anyone have any tips to fix this?

Are you using an o-ring? It shouldn't slip out if you're using an o-ring (which doesn't fit onto the hook w/ plastic which is why it's encouraged to remove the plastic)

If it's small, cutting up thin strips of scotch tape should work.

uhh i mean i disagree idk if jaspers way works but i just take some scrap mylar laying around and some chapstick. u rub it all over the piece and stick it on. if it's too big u might have to remylar the panel
it's not about the medals; go out there and have fun. make progress, learn a few things and have one heck of a time; that's all that matters.

Both methods already described will repair a hole in Ultrafilm covering.

However, the method I use is a little different.

I spray a very small squirt of 3M77 into a small plastic epoxy mixing cup and add naphtha with an eye dropper to thin till watery. Then use a small paint brush to apply all around the hole, maybe 1/8” wider than the hole all the way around. Then cut a small piece of film maybe 1/8” to 1/4” larger in each dimension than the hole (film between two sheets of newspaper and brand new blade makes this easier). Place the film carefully over the hole (The watery glue you applied around the hole will already be dry, and this is how you want it at this point) and brush more watery glue around the patch film without touching the patch film. The watery glue will wick underneath the patch and reactivate the glu you prevoiusly applied. Done and very neat looking. Last step, of course, clean the brush thoroughly with naphtha. Follow all material handling warnings when using the glue and naphtha thinner.

We have used the following approach for larger holes:

Trace the hole on a piece of paper. Cut a scrap of covering larger than the hole, and put on a second piece of paper with just enough chap stick to hold. Sandwich the two pieces of paper with covering in between. Cut the stack outside the line by 1/8-1/4". Remove the paper with tracing, cut on the line, and then put it back on the stack, maybe with a dot of chap stick.

Now you have a stack with and exposed border of plastic. Spray a very light dusting of 3m-77. Remove the small paper. Use the large paper to position the plastic over the hole. Lightly press in place, then oral of the paper.

For small holes, we put a little chap stick on a scrap of balsa, a few inches long and wider than the hole. Place a scrap of covering into the end of the stick with the chap stick. Light spray of glue, then use stick to place the covering. The stick keeps the covering from balling up

Thanks Brian.

Just what I am searching for. We got a small hole about 1/8 inch diameter on the wing. Maybe OK to leave it there? Still it is better to repair it.

Better to repair. Not so much because of aerodynamics. The hole creates a minimal issue with Aero. But repair so that it doesn’t get worse. If the same spot is bumped by a girder or a person, the 1/8” hole could become a 2” tear.
