the rules will give you 'dos' and 'donts' if you read through this thread you'll find references to some of the materials others are using and some possible construction ideas. I know its alot, but it helps. Alot.

Edit: However for the test portion, if you only know 2 things: know Q=mc (delta T). for the 3 invites ive done legit 1/3 the test was just calorimeter questions with that and basic unit conversions. However if they bring a ti-84 and impound, it have a built in conversion program (in scitools)

You really need to get a copy of the rules. The head coach should have a rules manual since they get one when they register the team. Alternatively you can buy one for a nominal cost here: http://store.soinc.org/c-14-new-materials-for-2012.aspx

There is a lot more to this event than just the 'allowed materials list'. You can also find some good info on the wiki: http://scioly.org/wiki/Keep_the_Heat

We are running Keep the Heat at an Invitational next week and are not finding an easy way to deliver the water as required. Are there suggestions posted somewhere?

Thanks

That is what another event supervisor is doing (or something like that). Just keep reading until the conversation digresses.

Thank you. I guess I should have prefaced my question with, Given we don't have access to a water bath...how do we deliver water...sorry. We are looking at microwaves, coffeepots and teakettles. I'm sure our Regional competition will have a water bath to run this event, but the middle school doesn't for the Invite.

Yes, as long as they are 100% cotton

That will depend on your local supervisor, but almost every tournament in the country uses partner tests.
