Although this may be an interesting question to ask, is it possible to run two official flights at the same time if running short on the 8-minute flight period? What I mean is your first flight has extended and will most likely end after the 8 minutes, so can I start my second official flight while my first is still in the air, and get times for both?

I have had similar thoughts. There were reports that Nationals could be in an 80-foot ceiling, in which case times aloft could exceed 6 minutes, and therefore even if wound off-plane, it may be difficult to get the second flight launched in the 8-minute window. I have asked this question over a month ago on the FAQ, but no reply. I suspect they do not believe such long flights are possible. Perhaps I am over-estimating the benefits of a tall ceiling.

Most ES's will not have sufficient timing teams and equipment to allow multiple flights per team simultaneously. But this should be addressed if a high ceiling is utilized.

I suggest you also ask via FAQ, to make it indeed "frequently asked"

I'm not completely sure how likely over 6 minutes is but I'm thinking high 5s will be achievable with such a high ceiling, assuming that the plane is able to get to the top. Maybe experimentation with rubber and motor stick lengths will be required, though it may be hard for some teams without access to similarly sized buildings, unless the try partial testing

The last time Nationals had an extremely high ceiling (UIUC Armory), the top flight was between 4 and 5 minutes. Unfortunately I don't have the Div B rules manual from 2011 or I would mention the device parameters.

I do not know what the parameters were in 2011. I suspect however the rubber and prop were limited.

Looking through archives, 2011 does not show WS. 2010 had 1.5g rubber, 20cm prop. If they got 5 minutes with that in a high ceiling, this year could be > 6 minutes in similar ceiling.

Over recent years, WS has tried strongly to curb long flight times, with a goal by organizers apparently in the 2-3 minute range (based on comments by Tom at awards in Ohio several years ago). With wide open rubber/prop, best way to keep times reasonable is low ceiling. We'll see!

Low ceilings and unlimited rubber may just motivate someone to try torque burners again.
In previous years when planes were capable of 2-3 minutes on 2 gm rubber, there were some post season competitions by indoor clubs that eliminated the rubber limit and best flyers doubled their times. Wings were bigger that year, so can't say how much that will carryover to this year.

please correct me if I'm wrong, but torque burners are more suitable for low ceiling competitions, not high ceiling ones like the rumored nationals venue?
