Don't forget to add the load resistor.BrS wrote:Hi, I'm completely new to this event. How do you measure your own turbine's voltage with a voltmeter? I'm not sure how to attach it.
There is a schematic in the rules this year that shows the connection of the motor, the resistor and the voltmeter.
There are also some posts a few pages back on the same subject.

Content for Exam - Study Material
The challenge on this part of the event is finding and consolidating material to study. Statistical data and history can be skew, old, or inaccurate altogether. The internet has all the information, but too much information is a problem in its own.
Is it possible that we alliance with some internet site as the source of for the content to study? i.e. NEED.org or KidWind.org
I find NEED.org content is best as it has different level of material for different school grades, Primary, Elementary, Intermediate and Secondary. And there's curriculum that coach can navigate and design the material around the subject matter.
May be we can encourage all proctors who write the exam to refer to these material?
Disclaimer: I don't work for or have any affinity or receive any benefit by promoting NEED.org

Re: Wind Power B/C
Something to keep in mind - the best tests will be full of questions that requires some application of knowledge, some deeper understanding of the content. You could print the entirety of several websites and organize them in the reference binder (you might as well) but factual recall will only be a portion of the test. Sure, there's likely to be a matching column of wind turbine parts with a labeled diagram - but it's the process skills that will separate the medalists from the rest of the pack. Best bet: just start reading as much as possible, and ask more "how" and "why" questions and less "what" questions.soyuppy wrote: May be we can encourage all proctors who write the exam to refer to these material?
Unfortunately there are also test questions which seem to focus on arcane trivia; they're a fun perk if you happened to know it, but it's frustrating as a student to get that "why did they think that was important?" feeling after a test.

This would be so great for Fermi Questions.daydreamer0023 wrote:Was that actually a question?soyuppy wrote:Like, "how many cans of coke does it take to power up an iPhone?"SPP SciO wrote:

This reminds me of a DynaPlan question I saw on our state test: What was the temperature of (Cant remember the name) Lake on January 21st, 2015?Unome wrote:This would be so great for Fermi Questions.daydreamer0023 wrote:Was that actually a question?soyuppy wrote: Like, "how many cans of coke does it take to power up an iPhone?"
I wish I was kidding about that.
