Re: Fossils B/C
Almost! I was looking for Eocene to Oligocene but I didn't say temporal range so Paleogene is correct. But the significance of Mesohippus is that unlike its predecessors, its cranial cavity was very large suggesting that Mesohippus had a large brain like modern horses. And the last two fun facts I knew but the first one is new so good job giving fun facts!

Re: Fossils B/C

1. Genus
2. This genus has existed for millions of years, and still lives today. What is the name of such an organism?
3. What is its temporal range?
4. What is the order of this specimen, and when did that order first evolve?

1) Gingko 2) If you're referring to the extant species, Gingko biloba 3) Cretaceous? to present (does this refer to the genus or the species) 4) This is what binders are for :P

Re: Fossils B/C
I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure tests can't ask about species unless they are on the list (which is only C. Megalodon and H. Neanderthalensis), so not the species for 2 and 3. For 2 I was looking for the category of species/fossils this belongs to (Coelacanth belongs to this category as well). 3 is wrong, and 4 is unanswered.Unome wrote:1) Gingko 2) If you're referring to the extant species, Gingko biloba 3) Cretaceous? to present (does this refer to the genus or the species) 4) This is what binders are for :P

1. Ginkgo 2. Living fossil 3. Jurassic to Present (although some sources say Permian) 4. Ginkgoales Jurassic (some say Permian)

Re: Fossils B/C
Ok cool. Thank god. Thats what I thought but wikipedia said other stuff. In short I'm freaked out for MIT. Next question...

1. Kingdom
2. Phylum
3. Class
4. Order
5. Genus
6. What anatomical part is highlighted in this picture?
7. What was the function of said anatomical part?
8. What type of cross section is this (more anatomy but BONUS so hey)
9. What anatomical part is the darkened area?
10. What was the function of said part when the organism was alive?
11. Can you see the anatomical part that gives this order its namesake in this picture?
12. Environment?
13. During which time period was this order an important reef builder?

1. Animalia 2. Cnidaria 3. Anthozoa 4. Favositida? (I have conflicting names for this one) 5.Favosites 6.mural pores 7.Allow nutrient transfers between poylps 8. I think Sagittal (A&P person here soooo....) 9.Corallites 10. Provides place for polyp to retract to and to sit in 11.Yes? As corallites are hexagonal shaped 12. Shallow-water reefs water 13.Silurian

Re: Fossils B/C
Mostly correct.
4. Tabulata
8. Sagittal is right but I shouldn't have asked that question
11. No (Namesake is tabullae and you can't see them because its a sagittal cut--> i think you could see them if it was a frontal or transverse cut except I think a frontal is better)
12. Shallow marine is correct but important to note that its WARM water
13. Silurian is correct but this was true during the Devonian as well
