Rule 2.d.iii answers that one ... the whole testing set-up will be provided by the ES. But yeah, it's essential to have your own set-up, to practice!

Until we get a proper CD motor/attachment etc, we will use a small DC motor with a cork stuck upside-down on the shaft. Wedge the CD onto the cork, and, voila! It's a little tricky to get it to sit nice and perpendicular, but it's pretty quick.

Any suggestions on how to rig a device at home to test this event? New team and I want to make sure my students have a clear idea of what is being tested here. How do we measure the ohms at home?

It is based on the resistance of the circuit the blades are running. For example, if the total resistance of the wire, voltmeter, and resistor is 550 Ω, then every team's power will be calculated using that value. If a team generated 0.40 V, then its score would be 0.40^2/550 = 2.9 x 10^-4 W.

I was wondering what we will be tested on like specifically. I don't currently have the the rules so I was just wondering.

We can't post the exact rules for copyright reasons, but the five subjects are rotor/ blade design, power generators, power storage, power transmission, and historical wind power designs. They are very specific and require a minimum of 25 questions per test, 5 per subject.

I would recommend reading plenty of scientific literature.
