Well you could have actually built a trebuchet if the weight was lifted by a non metallic elastic solid.

What are some non metallic elastic solids that are good for this? Last year I used bungee cords but those wear out and failed us at the competition. I was thinking Surgical Tubing but I don't know how well that would work, because I dont know how easy it is for it wear out or anything. Thanks in advance :D

Excercise tubing works as long as it's a light color and you have you competetions in side or you shade the bungee sufficently otherwise bungee is really the best choice.

Why does it have to be a light color? Does it crack if it is out in the sun?

No it looses power because it's rubber. We used Black rubber tubing and it made the device not as accurate as we wanted it to be, we still won regionals but it could have been better.

I didnt know that... Is there no other material you could use besides bungee cords or surgical tubing it seems like there must be someting else that would work better. Rubber bands wear out pretty fast, but I saw one last year that had like a hundred rubber bands providing the power...

Does anyone know what exactly is the definition of a Hackie Sack? I know what a Hackie sack is but I cannot find an exact specification. From what I have found it seems the World Footbag Players Association is the "Official" body that runs the Hacky Sack world. They have some specification for what is a "legal" hacky Sack. The rules include a diameter of 1-2.5" and a mass of 20 - 70 grams. Does anyone know what Hackie Sack they are refering to in the trajectory rules? The company Hasbro has a footbbag called Hacky Sack (not spelled the same way as the SO rules) which they claim is their trademark, is that the only footbag we can use in trajectory?

I would say not to read too much into the rules. A basic bean bag in the shape of a ball is probably all they mean. Also, i would test with and bring another ball to the competition if you want to use the hackie sack primarily. If they say you can't, then you will have a back-up. Personaly though, i highly prefer the raquetball because it has little friction being released and being a perfect sphere makes it more accurate.
