Inflammation is part of the vascular tissues' response to harmful stimuli. The organism attempts to remove the harmful stimuli and begins the healing process.

White Blood Corpuscles, or Neutrophils. Functions are phagocytosis, release of anti-microbials, and secretion of products that stimulate Monocytes and Macrophages.(These increase phagocytosis.)
A polymorphonuclear leukocyte is also known as a granulocyte. The polymorphonuclear leukocyte group is divided into three types, basophils, neutrophils and eosinophils. Eosinophils kill parasites and have a role in allergic reactions. Basophils function in allergic reactions. They release histamine (which causes blood vessels to leak and attracts WBCs) and heparin (which prevents clotting in the infected area so that the WBCs can reach the bacteria). Functions of neutrophils are phagocytosis, release of anti-microbials, and secretion of products that stimulate Monocytes and Macrophages.(These increase phagocytosis.)
Red blood cells are also called erythrocytes and they deliver oxygen from the lungs to body tissues.
