It's a common courtesy for hosting teams to be exempt from medals, I believe. This was also the practice at the Muscatel Invitational. I personally believe that the Troy invitational was quite a success, and hopefully it'll become an annual event!

Do other invitationals outside of California do this? I thought it was because Muscatel did it.

I've been to invitationals at 2 high schools and neither of them have done this. My impression is that it's not the norm for the host to forego medals.

After this weekend we will have been to five invitationals this year and this practice will have been done at three of them. Since supervisors are sometimes asked to send their tests electronically before the competitions, this helps to eliminate people thinking that the reason the host school won medals was because they had already seen the test. Though, I think the better reason is that it is just a classy thing for the hosting school to do.

That's interesting. I would actually prefer that host schools did accept medals/trophies, because one of the best parts of invitationals (in my mind, at least) is being able to judge the relative strengths of all the teams and seeing how well they do in specific events and overall.

Or if they don't accept medals/trophies, at least including their rankings on the final scoresheet so other teams can see how they would have done.

Sorry, I was under the assumption that host schools usually forego medals. I guess it just depends, then. But it was very gracious for both Muscatel and Troy to do so! And at the Muscatel invitational, there was a final spreadsheet that did include the scores of the teams with the hosting school (as well as another sheet without). I believe this was the same for Troy as well..

However, I believe the other teams only received results not including Troy.

At the Twin Tiers invitational, Athens Area High School (hosts) forewent all medals and scoring.
