As a more direct response to Bozongle's question above, Indiana tied with Colorado for Division B registrations last year (each had 66) and this tie happened to straddle the two-team cutoff -- Indiana got two Division B spots at nationals but Colorado got only one. From the Colorado website, I see that Colorado has 75 Division B teams registered this year (38 at their Northern Regional and 37 at their Southern Regional), so Indiana would have to have a net gain of 10 Division B teams from last year to maintain a second Division B nationals spot, assuming no other states rose or fell in registrations too dramatically and Oklahoma claims its Division B spot.

Is the cutoff basically based on how many teams register?

Most of those schools have multiple different teams, since only one team from each school can go to State, so is it based on TEAM registrations, or SCHOOL registrations? Because if you counted one team from each school, it would be way less, especially the 8 teams from Lesher MS.

Just saw Ohio's state schedule today. It's exactly the same as the nationals schedule, which isn't surprising since nationals is in Ohio.

So, the big question is: does anyone know what other states copy the states schedule? It seems like it puts nationals teams from that state at a huge advantage.

I would expect that most competitive teams base the events each student is studying around the National Schedule when it is published in September. I know the top 3 division B teams in Georgia do. And even though our state schedule is radically different than the National schedule, I am still able to use the exact same partner pairings that I would use at Nationals. In fact we plan our state team that way. The last two years our 15th team member for the state team has made it on to the team specifically because of a potential conflict at Nationals and the fact that I will not reconfigure the team composition between the State and National Tournaments.
