Re: Sounds of Music C
i'm not planning on making drums
that's way too difficult
if they won't allow string instruments i'll probably end up making a marimba or xylophone

Re: Sounds of Music C
Oh. Well. I guess my coach is an overachiever, because she demands the full range.AlphaTauri wrote:Technically, no. You'd have to make 27 to cover the full allowable range, but you'd only really need 8 for the required one-octave scale (13 if you wanted to play accidentals in your piece of choice). Of course, some music doesn't stay within a one-octave range, so you'd have to arrange it, or you'd be somewhat limited in your music choice.

Re: Sounds of Music C
I'm very confused right now. Aren't violins, guitars, etc under the category chordophones? In the draft rules chordophones are one of the groups allowed.

Are you still calling these the draft rules?tmanneo wrote:I'm very confused right now. Aren't violins, guitars, etc under the category chordophones? In the draft rules chordophones are one of the groups allowed.
For the record and it's been said quite a few times (read the whole thread people >.>) those are NOT the draft rules. The draft rules are not going to be online
This difference is why people are saying you can't have string instruments.fmtiger124 wrote:yea, the draft ones I've seen where it says Instrument 1 and Instrument 2 on those FueL say Wind Instrument and Percussion Instrument.
Though things could still change considering those are only the draft rules.....

Re: Sounds of Music C
A good idea, but you have to make the instrument yourself and if you're going to spend your time building that you might as well build something with better sound quality.

Re: Sounds of Music C
Technically, that is legal by draft rules, but your perfect pitch has to be absolutely perfect, because I think they can ask you to play any note within the required range and judge it for accuracy. Along the lines of what zyzzyva said, if you have months to prepare, why not build something that can consistently play notes in tune, without having to rely on someone's perfect pitch? Of course, if it's the week before competition and you have nothing to lose, go ahead.quizbowl13 wrote:great idea: a kid with perfect pitch playing a kazoo.

Yes, a kazoo is a gamble. I wish I knew my great-great grandparents- they were instrument makers.
