ahhhhh.... a well documented issue across several years of Science Olympiad.
..... Disease Detectives was the event my high school would always struggle to find kids for.... too many sweaty pre-med kids.

Codebusters absolutely for our team. Nobody wants it. Nobody likes it. Chem lab too, probably.

Had to volunteer people to do remote sensing trajectory, and wifi lab this year

I don't understand why trajectory is so bad this year. I understand the complex events like wifi lab or even detector building, but trajectory is fairly straight forward yet I've seen some terrible efforts out of really good teams. I took third in a competition this weekend with two scoring launches over 40 cm which is awful, but somehow only three teams beat us.

In my district's div b team, IT'S SOUNDS OF MUSIC THIS YEAR
i can't fathom how, i would take it up in a few seconds if it was a div c event this year
what's not fun about building a musical instrument, i don't know what

Maybe "build a musical instrument" sounds too hard?
I think Covid has some blame here. Lots of B kids have missed out on traveling to physical events and seeing all the builds that similar-age kids have made, and have had fewer opportunities to do hands-on anything.

Yeah I would agree, especially looking at our middle school team (90% 6th graders). Nothing for PPP, Electric Wright Stuff, and Storm the Castle. They only have
a bare basics Mopple and a Mousetrap Vehicle from a kit, both of which I mighthavekindapressuredmybrothertodostuffwithhaha-
Builds are kinda intimidating when you don't know what you're doing, and covid taking away a bunch of invitational oppurtunities does kill a lot of the momentum for doing stuff like that
EDIT: Mopple got denied, no one avaliable that block apparently
