maybe the seemingly useless clues are meant to be ID clues, ex. Tiananmen Square is in China, it could possibly indicate one of the sassies being Chinese? Bit of a stretch or just useless info used to fit the world history theme

Some people have stated their race on the forums or on IRC or something like that... and you can kinda also tell by knowing the languages they've said that they can speak. And even though many people on the forums may be Chinese, it still kinda narrows it down, doesn't it? This is only the first clue and so the ID clues shouldn't give away so much and they will be rather vague. You're probably right though, so disregard what I'm saying
