Meanwhile, there are those who actually like birds...been 9 years...I didn't realize time was a bird, sure does fly.platypusomelette wrote:I'm so sad about the bio ID rotations I always wanted to do forestry or entomology the most but I get lousy herp for pretty much my entire scioly career

Anyone know why forensics stays an event every year without much change?

In a very general sense, events that rotate are of the sort where accumulated knowledge is more valuable. There are no doubt a number of factors that result in certain events being perennial though.lars wrote:Anyone know why forensics stays an event every year without much change?
Forensics rules have actually changed quite a bit year to year, although it's hard to see that without access to a decade's worth of past rules manuals.

Re: Science Olympiad Events 2019-2020
Forensics still sticks out to me as a perennial event that rewards the accumulation of knolwdge. All of the other study perennial events have a rotation of topics that make them different every or every other year, but forensics has had no change in content for the past three years. I just find it unusual that experimental design, write it do it, and forensics are the only events with no sort of rotation.Unome wrote:In a very general sense, events that rotate are of the sort where accumulated knowledge is more valuable. I'd say all of those events are of the sort where actual practice far outweighs the benefits of accumulated knowledge.lars wrote:Forensics still sticks out to me as a perennial event that rewards the accumulation of knolwdge. That said, it's likely that part of the reason for Exp Design and WIDI's continued nonrotation is just because Inquiry is already struggling with finding events for the two rotating spots.
Re: Science Olympiad Events 2019-2020
It seems Disease Detectives is headed that way now, didn't they remove the topics and just make it all one big event now?lars wrote:Forensics still sticks out to me as a perennial event that rewards the accumulation of knolwdge. And B also has Road Scholar, which hasn't really changed much in 400 years.

I'd say Disease never really changed at all, they've just stripped away the illusion of change this year.SOPomo wrote:It seems Disease Detectives is headed that way now, didn't they remove the topics and just make it all one big event now?lars wrote:Forensics still sticks out to me as a perennial event that rewards the accumulation of knolwdge.
