The lady said at the end it was really hard so we would know what to expect at nationals. i couldnt help but correct her in that last year's nats device was k'nex
Haha Regional WIDIs tend to be the worst. I try to avoid them whenever possible (I don't know about your region, but in ELI C Division you can drop two of the twenty events that are run; WIDI is generally one of ours). I love the event, but I hate it when they make it impossible (our region tends to have WIDIs that are impossible not even because they're difficult, but for stupid reasons like the Doer being unable to get the object to stay together because it isn't actually possible for it to stay together, since the writer's model was glued together).
That happened in B division? When?
No, C division. Last year. My partner from two years ago was in C division last year, even though I was still in B division at that point, and she ranted to me extensively about it.

Actually, I rechecked with people, and the C complaint was about a balloon and ink... I believe it was B- Popsicle sticks with notches in them- that was glued together. Sorry, I got it backwards before.

Ok, so basically the only way to practice this really is maybe find things from previous years that were made and have your teacher set it in front of you and your partner, having one write how to build it, and the other build it. So pretty much practice them throwing something at you, having your partner write it and you do it (or vice versa). Am I right? This way you and your partner learn what they're saying when they say "connect _____ to _____ and then _____ etc.". Let me know if I'm right. Thanks.

Well, the way my team practices is to take two boxes containing exactly the same slightly random materials (Knex, legos, pipe cleaners, paper clips, whatever you find) and have a random person build something out of it where neither of the WIDI people can see it. Then we get the Writer to sit down with the object in front of them and describe it (in writing). After the time expires, then we give the paper to the Doer, who tries to reconstruct the object from the directions in the writing.

my regionals are tomorrow, and I discovered a week ago on the State site clarifications that WIDI for regionals may use different materials then legos... I can't prepare.
Nerds rule. Nerds are awesome. Nerds will someday (soon) rule the world. And you know it.

2010. Be prepared. If not, you f(l)ail!

If you haven't even been preparing with legos you wouldn't be able to prepare anyways. As long as you did some work using anything you'll be somewhat decent. However, practice with various objects is always best.

Were you only practicing with legos?

Well, do you guys often think alike? If so, then yes; if not, it probably won't give you any particular advantage.
