Yeah, and the grading of last period events already delay award ceremonies for around an hour at most invitationals... So just imagine how long it would be if they first had to weigh all the events... O_O

That would be a nightmare, especially at the larger competitions with lots of teams.

Anyways, I think Pentathlon would be a great Trial Event (run around, relieve stress, get rid of some excess energy, all good), but it really shouldn't count towards a team's score.

Is this event hated because it requires a little physical exertion?

That seems pretty stupid. As "nerds" we should at least be a little open minded and willing to try new things.

But then im an athletic-nerd so this may sound pretty biased...

On the other hand, if this isnt the reason this event is hated, i would assume its because its so simple? I mean theres not much to "study"....

well you kinda have to study a very little bit to remember some pretty basic stuff but i dont hate it, i think i have the most fun in this event

Okay for those who say that some people dislike Pentathlon because it requires exercise and we aren't sporty because we're nerds, isn't this:

SCIENCE Olympiad. Not Sports Olympiad.

We are supposed to be tested on SCIENCE topics, NOT being evaluated on our physical ability. Now, I understand that the majority of it is around the science part and teamwork aspect. But those who do well at some of the physical portions have a decided and somewhat unfair advantage over those who don't because that's not what's supposed to be tested in the first place. And anyway, some of the activities used in this event barely qualify as "exercise" and doesn't help the image of non-sporty nerds if that's what the issue is here.

To use a terrible analogy that sounds very slightly Shakespearean: Pentathlon is like a person you love, but is from a different family that is enemies with your family. In other words, yeah, it's a fun event, but it doesn't really fit in with the theme of Science Olympiad. Oh, and athletics and nerds are enemies. Here's another bad analogy: Pentathlon is like an imaginary friend; fun to be around but to get anything done you have to forget about "fun" and get down to business. We don't like pentathlon because it's like a filler event, an event that could be replaced with something that has to do with science, instead of shooting a basketball. Yeah, that involves science of some sort, but are you really going to think about it when you're on the clock trying to shoot? I don't think so.
