Can someone please reconcile the discrepancy between the second sentence of this article: https://ohso.osu.edu/news/2019/01/08/me ... igh-school and these scores: https://ohso.osu.edu/sites/default/file ... esults.pdf? Or am I just dumb?

Interesting.. I think someone mistook the team number for the rank. I'll see if I can get it corrected.

It would be better if they would've put teams based on final rank in order, but that is outrageous. Alexander HS placed 38th at state, yet the article thinks that team number directly corresponds with rank (for Mason it was  ), but then that would mean Solon and Mentor end up in the bottom five at state.

    4. Solon B - #40 (193)
    5. Northville - #31 (194)
    6. Pioneer - #33 (195)
    7. Centerville B - #59 (197)
    8. Saline Blue - #34 (215)
Please note that a number of teams withdrew last minute due to weather. Here is a picture of the printed scoresheet; an online link to the official results should be available tomorrow.
Since I don't have too much of a life, I calculated top superscores for attending teams (again, accounting for weather):
  • 1. Solon (67)
    2. Centerville (91)
    3. Northville (174)
    4. Pioneer (195)
    5. Carmel (197)
    6. Saline (199)
    7. Bloomington South (245)
    8. Lake Central (252)

It's likely due to the fact that someone not familiar with SO from the OSU communications department wrote the story (likely a student intern). We'll get it fixed soon. Also, there is an age old debate about whether to present final scores by rank or team number. Posting them by rank really only benefits those teams that consistently rank high, as they know they can scan the first few lines of the list to find their rank and compare to their 'rivals'. For the majority of teams who won't rank highly, posting by rank complicates things, as it makes it harder to find which line their team is on. Instead of skipping straight to the team number line (which everyone on the team should know by heart since all the schedules are based on team number and you have to write it on devices and tests), they have to skim the list for their name. And for these teams, they generally don't have 'rivals' they are trying to compare themselves to on a team level, rather they are more interested in event level placement.
