Looks to me like Solon just had a bad day. Likely that they messed up the laser shoot in Optics and anything can happen with Widi. Id still say they are stronger than Mentor.
Solon definitely had a bad day. If they had performed in those events as they normally do, they could have had a score nearing 50 points! In that regard, they'll definitely do a lot better at nationals this year. I think Mentor will likely end up somewhere around 10th, maybe a little lower on a good day. Troy/Mira Loma/Harriton/LASA/Solon and maybe Northville are definitely going to eat up the top few spots.
That's true, but you have to consider the fact that Mentor DIDN'T have a bad day in any events, and they could easily do amazing at nationals. I don't think they will place 1st, but top 6 is not unlikely at all.

They didnt have a bad day, but it wasnt spectacular. I dont see them breaking top 6

I agree. While MIT was a while ago, Mentor got 14th and 15th respectively. Considering they had unstacked teams, that's a good placing. However, compared to Solon, even though their teams appeared slightly stacked, they took 4th and 7th. I'd undoubtedly say Solon is stronger. Still, Mentor most certainly has a good shot at top 10.

Mentor is most certainly out of the picture. For example, last year Troy placed in almost every event at nationals but because of a couple low scores in events they got beaten out of the first place slot.
Even with the consistent strength displayed by Solon, any team can bomb an event due to a fluke or a bad day and drop several ranks.

This has happened numerous other times in the past to Solon: Div B 2014 two events that normally placed bombed leading to a drop from a likely first place to fifth, Div C 2014 same thing, 2016 Div B bombed two events that (ignoring WIDI) should've bumped them up to 2nd place

Nobody is saying Mentor is out of the picture. Just that their performance is nothing to write home about.
Additionally with 40 days til nationals, Solon has plenty of time to fix the 2 events that didn't go their way in addition to perfecting everything else. Mentor has much more work to do if they want a shot at the top 6 (or even top 10)

I need more scioly in my life now that our season's over so here goes:
1. Troy - perennial favorite and look strong as ever, winning regionals and golden gate on the same weekend by a ridiculous margin, and that was around 2 months ago
2. Mira Loma - winning in a big margin over Palo Alto and Mountain View at states and the returning champs
3. Solon - my personal preference to win, but a few events still look a little weak which I think will take them under the CA teams if they don't improve
4. Northville - won a lot of Ohio invitationals and have been on a constant upward trajectory at nats the past few years, might be a tad high but I think they will show up for sure
5. Seven Lakes - third place team from last year, strong showing at MIT, placing might change depending on how they look at state
6. Stevenson - have been improving every year for the past few year at nats, will be a close contest for top 5, also are getting Daniel Wright's freshmen from their nats winning team last year
7. LASA - strong showing at Golden Gate but a few events bombs might bring them down
8. Mentor - did not have a weak event at states, Memorial's 2013 class and motivation from last year's states fiasco are probably going to push them to top 10
9. Harriton - while not by any means weak, Harriton to me has been slightly overrated on this forum after MIT, certain events have looked consistently weak through the season which i think will bring them down, although they might just be hiding their builds
10. New Trier - these last few spots will be close, but took a solid 2nd at Wright State and were in the top 10 last year
Close to top 10: Acton-Boxborough, Munster, F-M, Mounds View (although i hear they have issues)

I think you may be underrating Harriton a bit here. It is very normal for Harriton to appear to have weaknesses during invitationals, that eventually get fixed. Overall results indicate that this year's Harriton team should not be significantly weaker than last year's team (and, if anything, may be stronger). It is possible that their overall ceiling is not quite as high as last year's, but after decreasing their regionals score from last year
by 52% (albeit likely with a weaker overall region, although Stoga, Rustin, and LM are still strong), I don't really see them falling to a place that would tie for their worst nationals place
since 1993.
