Alright, I'm just going to go all out rebel and ask another fossils question.

How and when were banded iron formations (BIFs) formed? (Hint: the answer can be found on this page if you scroll down a little bit: http://petrifiedwoodmuseum.org/Precambrian.htm)

Banded iron formations, known as BIF's, are ancient sedimentary deposits consisting of alternating layers of iron rich and silica rich layers. BIF's started out as sediments deposited on ancient ocean floors.
