Re: Egg-O-Naut C
How do you attach the strings to the chute?...duct tape? Tie them on?cypressfalls Robert wrote:I put about 50 on a ten footer last yearsciencegeek100 wrote:rocketman1555 wrote:I usually use 32 strings, 64 on some of my larger parachutes, but yes, the more strings that you use the more likely they will get tangled, but if you have more strings than it doesn't matter as much if some of them fall off or come untied
if u build it well, 8 is enough
32 is asking for trouble
64 is trouble

Re: Egg-O-Naut C
I tie them and then put super glue on the knots and then use a little scotch tape to cover it

Re: Egg-O-Naut C
I put a small square of duct tape on the chute, then punch a hole through it, then tie the string through that hole.
Edit: Also, I always put a little clear nail polish on knots. It seals them pretty well.

Thats exactly what I doCeleste wrote:I put a small square of duct tape on the chute, then punch a hole through it, then tie the string through that hole.
I use fishing line, but I never coat the knots with anything, but I've never had a knot come undone

fishing line? have you ever had excess line on a knot puncture the parachute? it almost seems like its bound to happenharryk wrote:Thats exactly what I doCeleste wrote:I put a small square of duct tape on the chute, then punch a hole through it, then tie the string through that hole.

Re: Egg-O-Naut C
Really?...you use fishing line and don't get tangles? Do you use baby powder on the parachute & its lines? At our Regional, I saw a LOT of parachutes' fishing-line get tangled up...the teams that used string/cord didn't seem to have as much of a problem.Jest wrote:fishing line? have you ever had excess line on a knot puncture the parachute? it almost seems like its bound to happenharryk wrote:Thats exactly what I doCeleste wrote:I put a small square of duct tape on the chute, then punch a hole through it, then tie the string through that hole.

Re: Egg-O-Naut C
What thickness of string have you been using? I, too, use fishing line but am having problems with the tangles (so...I launch less)maggymay wrote: Really?...you use fishing line and don't get tangles? I need to make another parachute so I suppose I could try out some type of string.

Re: Egg-O-Naut C
Now if you look several posts up, you will see my first account of losing a parachute with a time of ~4min
Well..
I've just bested that, my new record which I think may actually be a world record for Egg-o-Naut
15 minutes and counting
Last time I saw that parachute was when it was about 5000ft up and climbing and the clock said fifteen minutes
I lost sight of it purely because it got so far up, and too far away and thus to small to see
and for anyone who lives in the northwest houston area, it was traveling south past Hot Wells Shooting Range at approximately 8-10mph
Pics coming soon...

Re: Egg-O-Naut C
Lool yeah, I'm starting to wonder how they're going to judge this because I launched a rocket the just yesterday and it was around the 3 min mark before i lost it in the horizon (it was hovering atleast 200 feet in the air past some trees in about 15 mph winds). And just the day before I was getting maybe 30 seconds max? How will they judge it, when it's out of sight (according to the timers)? Highly variable to say the least.harryk wrote:Now if you look several posts up, you will see my first account of losing a parachute with a time of ~4min
