My event supervisor didn't see anything against it. He allowed us to do anything on the track from measuring with rulers, to realigning, to even cleaning the track with a floor sweeper. The only rules he enforced were no electronics (except calculators) could be used at anytime, and that during the launch, nothing we used to set up still remains on the track (including ourselves)

So to answer your question, probably. But it depends on the E/C and their own logistics of the event

Ya I had a problem with time too. I made a more complicated design for states and it took longer than expected to set up. Guess I should've practiced more. Luckily it ended up working out for me. How close were you and how fast was your car?

Given distance: 11.2 meters
Accuracy: ~26 cm off
Time: ~5 sec

Yeah...not very good stats. When I meant I needed more time, I meant I made my entire scrambler that I used for states in 5 days. Didn't get to test it save for like, 4 times at the competition site before impound. In retrospect, if I have taken just 3 more seconds to align it, I would've been good. Those 26 cm are all off center. I touched the wall.

Hey guys. I just want your opinion. So my release mechanism is me pulling a pin out from under my falling mass, which then allows the mass to fall. The pin comes along with the pencil when I pull it out, meaning it is around the pencil after the car is released. Do you think this would be legal?

I'd say that's legal, because that's exactly what I did at states

Sure, different E/C have different interpretations, but I didn't see any reason (and neither did my E/C apparently) in the rule books to rule out the idea.

If you keep the pencil and pin inside of an imaginary 1x1x.75 box. The event supervisor for nationals (brother nigel i want to say his name was) told me that your entire release needs to remain in that imaginary box. So i would suggest just dropping the pin off of your pencil as soon as you release.

Well it needs to stay in that box until you release it. I don't see why there's an issue with it leaving the box after it's been released.
