Does anyone know how to tell the difference between a canvasback and a redhead? I think they're both on the list.

They are not both on the list, the only "redhead" on the list is the red-headed woodpecker.

Dang, sorry. Canvasback actually is on the list, but redhead isn't. They're ducks, if you were wondering. ;)

okay. so i reread this post again and i kinda want a clarification on this clarification...

can we kinda stick post-its...like full-size 3x3 or larger post-its into the field guide and write on them?

I would guess no. I think what they mean by "tabs" are pieces of paper large enough for you to fit maybe the common name and family, but not much else.

I'm pretty sure that you aren't allowed to put any type of paper (post-its included) in the field guide, apart from small tabs that allow you to navigate easily to certain pages. But you can write directly in the guide, and you can also write on the back of the bird list.

If you want to be very careful, I encourage you to submit a clarification on this.

No offense, but a field guide should really be all you need, as long as you get one with all the details included... I'm a member of the Pennsylvania Envirothon, and I have to know all PA bird species without using any field guides as a resource; I used to find that difficult and annoying, now I'm entirely grateful, and I hope it earns me a nice first place metal... Additionally about half of the bird calls required for this Sci-O event are covered on the Pennsylvania bird calls CD I have to state for the state envirothon competition...

All of you that are competing in this even should contact your local envirothon coordinators threw the Canon Envirothon website, and see if they can over you any study resources... It'd be good to check your game commission websites too, if you have them available =] They're always willing to help interested teens.

I saw a cardinal fly past my window, and it was really awesome cuz it was such a white background. Also: about 20-30 ish vultures were spotted flying in circles above my head four hours ago. fun!
