How can we find the epicenter of an earthquake and the magnitude if they don't give us rulers to measure the SP lag time and the amplitude of the waves?

we had to find the epicenter in one of our test and the event supervisor forgot compasses so he's just like oh u can use the corner of ur paper
so my circles were horable
i just used the paper and marked the length according to the scale and tried to make a circle with it
didnt turn out that well

Like reading them? The places with high amplitudes are where the shaking occurs, and you read it chronologically from left to right. Anything else?
