Fellas, does anyone have a consistent method of identifying members of genus Masticophis and Thamnophis apart?

Snakes in the genus thamnophis will commonly have a distinctive bright strip on the center dorsal scales, snakes in this genus will have somewhat keeled scales. Sometime snakes in the masticophis will have this stripe down the center though it is much wider, though the amount the dorsal scales are keeled varies.

Hi! I'm new to the SciOly forum and because I passed my regionals I decided to make an account. What changes are usually made to the Herpetology test as a step up from regionals to states. Any specific things I would need to study for?

Its basically the same information except more of it. Typically the tests should get faster and harder at state so try and get to know your notes so you can find information quickly. Also study simple information that is commonly asked so that you do not have to look it up (ie whether or not each species is nocturnal or diurnal or which species are oviparous etc.)

Mainly telling apart the genera from other genera.
