very interesting.
As we can see the curve makes no difference.
Thank you for doing this.
Also, may I ask why you made your vehicle out of knex?

heres a video i made to show the difference between a brachistochrone curve and a normal ramp. Hope this is enlightening.
Is that actually a brachistochrone curve or just an arbitrary curve? If so, what is the equation for it and how did you do the math?

it was just a quick vehicle i made so i can demonstrate but also for the vehicle i'll be using for competition will probably be used out of knex because I find it really easy to customize and make quick changes

If part of the release mechanism, say a pin or a string, exits the 75 X 75 X 100 dimensions of the ramp but is still attached to the ramp, would it be penalized for?

I hope not. I believe the rules say that the ramp and vehicle in starting position must fit inside the dimensions. It doesn't say that the starting mechanism or even all parts must fit inside that area.

Based on my interpretation of the rules, it would be a penalty, BUT ONLY if it was before the vehicle was released. I did send in a rules clarification about this, but it was more pertaining to after the vehicle was released, not before.

I would consider the starting mechanism to be part of the ramp, so it has to be inside the dimensions before release, but afterwards it can leave the area as long it does not hit the ground following the release. The rules only specifically say the ramp and vehicle must be in the dimensions, but I think its safe to say that the intent is for the release mechanism to be inside too. I'm also very surprised that there was so little difference between the two ramps in the video. I wasn't expecting a huge difference, but certainly more than that.

Thanks!

Honestly, all I can say is test, test, test. I haven't seen our official scoresheet, but I know in comparison to our predicted time, actual time was around .15 seconds off (which I thought was pretty good.) That was all because of testing, and collecting data.

Congrats on the incredible score. For the invite, was the given distance that of states qualification (every 10cm) or regional competition level (50cm)? Also what was the target distance?
