yea, many people had that problem at my regionals, cause i saw a couple cars just crash into the barrier.

I believe that all Scrambler events are on wood gym floors-at least they are in NY-I assumed it would be in a gym like all building events are so luckily we didn't have that problem

It is a tossup between wood, tile, and cement here.

When it was in C division it was on a rubberized gym floor at West Point. I think the gym at New Paltz is wood, though.

I just found out my team might not finish the scrambler car in time for the competition so i'm preparing a backup. All i'm going to do is build something to get the minimum requirements of construction and scoring. I have time until competition, about another 20 days, but I want to finish this week cuz it is spring brake and i have time. I do not need to build the launch system. So far i built a prototype, a very crude but effective one. I have used cds as wheels, paper as the axle, and connected the two axises with paper and wood on the top. From some post i read from the beginning, it mentions a string braking system is not allowed, is that true, what rule is that? My other concern is the distance, though my wheels are not straight at all, i wonder how difficult is getting the 12 meters because if i push it, it stops after 5 meters, probably because I don't push enough. I probably will build a much better car, but i need to make sure this prototype works before that. http://img21.imageshack.us/img21/8640/img0125w.jpg

you can use a string braking system as long as the string is attached from back axle to front axle, but not from car to launcher.
Also, it doesn't take that long too make a good scrambler car, maybe 2 hrs. if you have supplies. it shouldn't be hard going the full 12 meters. what are you planning to make it out of?(not paper hopefully...)
