Really? First of all, this is not the place for this. If you want to make jokes, make them in the posting games or general chat. Not in the states thread where the main purpose is discussion, NOT politics. No way is politics coming into these threads on my watch. I also don't think that depicting the predictions in this manner was exactly appropriate, but regardless, that was one of the most incredible Science Olympiad tournaments that I've ever been at. Thank you so much to everyone who ran the events, graded tests, pulled together logistics, and everyone who competed to make this such an amazing tournament!lumosityfan wrote:Really? You are fake news.Secondly, so what? People can't predict these results ahead of time. If we could, we could bet money on it and win
People are not perfect and hey, people genuinely thought Conestoga could make nationals! Cheer up a little on these predictions: they are predictions after all.

Re: Pennsylvania 2017
I do appreciate the feedback on the poll. A few things to keep in mind:
Everyone's predictions were very different. The poll only represents an aggregate of predictions. It's not dissimilar to what you see in the ESPN college football poll. Likewise, real results very frequently do not adhere to the predicted results from the poll; differences between predicted and actual results are common.
Also, this is the fourth year I've done a poll like this, and the previous three times I didn't get pushback after the competition. The two things I did differently were include the user's names in the poll to make it easier for people to see if their vote was counted, and to also call it a prediction contest at times, since that's essentially what it evolved into. If either of these ended up not being good ideas, let me know and I can fix that for next year.
Lastly, there was demand for me to keep releasing updates to the poll, and there was demand for the poll itself, so it's not like I did this just for me. Perhaps the two sides can come to a compromise, or I can fix one of the facets I mentioned above.
Overall, I'm willing to adjust the approach in order to try to avoid post-tournament hurt feelings. But predictions are always dicey, and they're not going away. Plus, as I said, this is the fourth year I've released prediction aggregations like this, and in none of the past three years did I have any complaints that the presentation was inappropriate. So I'm perfectly willing to do things like withhold user names, or withhold second place votes, but unless there's been a major shift in the community, I don't know that the rankings themselves are out of place.

Re: Pennsylvania 2017
Yes to this, also I distinctly remember Parkland placing twice. Didn't really keep track though, awards definitely moved along pretty quickly so missing some medals is perfectly understandable!

Here's the Ohio predictor. I think it fills in some of the medal gaps.
