Oh oops my bad, I don't have the sheet on me. The C scale is the required octave for the percussion instrument, but the D4 is out of the mandatory octave for the wind instrument, which requires a G major scale. The rule makers were going on the basis that most people will play the melody line with the wind instrument...Mr. Cool wrote:How is a D4 below a C4?personasaurus rex wrote:An octave only consists of 8 notes, so if I am correct, I believe you're talking about the allowable range, which is roughly 2 octaves if I remember correctly. the D4 is part of the allowable range, but is below the REQUIRED octave, which ranges from C4-C5Mr. Cool wrote:I have a question about the rules.
After it has the required song printed it says that the first note, a D, is below the required octave. And yet, if my knowledge of music is accurate (which I believe it is), that D is one whole step above C4, or middle C, making it a D4. Surely it is not a D3? So doesn't that mean it is in the required octave (I'm assuming when it says mandatory scale as C4 to C5 that is the same as the "required octave"?)
C major scale:
C D E F G A B C
D is the second note in the scale....

Uh, guys, if you read the lines of text immediately below the two lines of Shenandoah, it says:
I think the "required octave" they are referring to in this part means between G4 and G5 in the printed music, so if your instrument only plays C4 to C5, you would transpose from the given key of G into C (and you could play a C instead of having to play a low G for that first note).Note that the first note of the song is below the required octave. Students may substitute a G for the D that is written with no penalty. Also note that for ease of reading the music is written in slightly higher key than either of the given ranges and it is expected that students will choose a key to match the ability of their instruments.

Ah OK. Yeah I was thinking maybe it meant G4 to G5. So basically that message is for people who just want to build their instruments in order to play the required song and not the full range.AlphaTauri wrote:Uh, guys, if you read the lines of text immediately below the two lines of Shenandoah, it says:I think the "required octave" they are referring to in this part means between G4 and G5 in the printed music, so if your instrument only plays C4 to C5, you would transpose from the given key of G into C (and you could play a C instead of having to play a low G for that first note).Note that the first note of the song is below the required octave. Re: Sounds of Music C
Since you only have about a day to practice, I'd choose something easy for regionals. Common songs, not necessarily "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star" but something easily recognizable and easy to play. If you get to state, then go after something more complicated.

something like the national anthem or something. Nice and percussive, easy melody and rhythm. Just don't butcher it like Christina Aguilera. ;]catman51325 wrote:What songs are everyone doing for their chosen song. We really need an idea for regionals Saturday. Please help

You may not want to go that route. You want it to be pretty well known. I dont think the judges will be the kind of people who would be big FF fans...Bogoradwee wrote:I'm considering switching my song to "Prelude" from Final Fantasy!

Re: Sounds of Music C
does anyone have any ways of making marimba bars lower?
I don't have enough time to make new bars so i'm trying to add mass to the bars. Any ideas on where to add the mass to give it the lowest frequency?
