I think I would be able to claim that the tape is part of the template, but I am concerned that the tape might cause it to be considered modifying the LSS (Although, any tape that gets on the LSS or mirror is going to be removed after the laser has been fired.).

I personally wouldn't have a problem with that, but I think your mileage may vary depending on the specific event supervisor.
Though I don't think it will change the results a team might have in any way, I have seen some judges not let people leave the templates on the LSS and stated that if they were left they "would modify the LSS". Technically true but I doubt that was the intent of the rule.

Personally, I have never quite understood what was intended by the prohibition on modifying the LSS, as other than using templates I have never had any ideas that I would consider modifying it.

We mainly want to avoid things like making marks or drawing on it.. imagine the hassle is 20 different teams tried to draw on the same LSS?

I think space scientist was just using the tape to keep the template stable, and was simply worried that this would count as "modifying the LSS." I think as long as you take it off when you're done, you should be golden.

I was doing some research on Optics, and I ran across something that said I needed this to do Optics. Other than the fact that I understand not a single bit of that...
/facepalm
Anyone care to help me with this? Not knowing this stuff doesn't help with not panicking.

Physics is difficult for 99% of the world's population because they don't understand it. The other 1% know too much.

I'm pretty sure the test proctor would not even be able to understand that, let alone expect 6-8th graders to take a test on it.

let's just all collectively agree NOT to study that, so it'll be a level playing field. Ok everyone? :)

I got that off the soinc website. If it were anything else, I wouldn't be worried, but it was the soinc website, so...

They can't expect us to know calculus based equations for division b. That's a bit too intense...
