I know the short story that you are referencing. I haven't been very helpful in assassination games, but maybe I can help catch you, General Zaroff. Consider it the classic game of cat and mouse, though in this case the mouse is replaced with another cat.

I remember that story! It was one of the short stories we had to read in class last year. (and it was actually good!
