Thank you for everyone's advice, draping the parachute on the tube and having ping pong ball on the side turned out to work the best for us when we tested today, so thanks everyone
Just wondering, does it lean to one side during launch?
It does lean but our parachute is deploying so not that worried about that prob rt now. Also, I have a question, how can I make sure that my rocket doesnt touch the ceiling? When we use 55 psi in our gym it works "ok" without touching the ceiling (our gym height is 20 something ft.) so if I use the same pressure in our competition are there chances it will touch the ceiling? If so is there something I can do to avoid that? other than taking our own pressure pump(but how does that change it?)

You need to know how high your rocket goes as a function of pressure, so you can adjust the pressure for whatever the competition area height is. You also have some uncertainty at the competition - the pressure gauge on the competition pump might not be calibrated the same as yours, and there might be a difference in the release mechanisms. So you might want to make your first attempt a little conservative (say target 3 feet below the ceiling or something) and then adjust your second attempt based on how high the first one actually goes.

It'll be whatever the assigned event supervisor brings. But knowing "what kind" won't help you, as the differences will be down to that particular launcher, rather than the type of launcher. Just practice lots with your rocket, and you'll be in good shape.

You need to test and log your PSI/Height so you know when you get to competition. I'd work on reducing weight. You can only go to 65psi, so if you have a venue with a 30+ ft ceiling you won't be able to reach it which puts you at a big disadvantage.
