Hi,
Here I saw our students glue the tension to compression part first. They use template to make sure left side and right side are the same.
After that, they put left and right compression part together with Z bracing on both top and bottom.
Then with help of testing hook, align base with 2 tension sticks. The tension they use is 1/16 X 1/16 basswood.
They took advice from here that the base is only 7/8" (~2.2cm), not 5cm. Save a gram about.
Base to tension with groove and laminate.
Following photo is they were trying to align base to tension sticks. This is not a finished boomilever.

how does that base usually work for you guys? We've been struggling to find a solid base design, the glue usually breaks off the tension members so we don't know how to make sure the connection is strong

With Gorilla Glue, groove base for the tension stick and laminate. So all 4 sides of the each tension are glued to the base.
Tested with 1/2" overlap of base and tension, holding 40 kg no problem.
Also heard you can put base (the same height as tension sticks) between the tensions then sandwich them. This can avoid grooving.
Try out with luggage scale to see how strong it is.

Is there a good guide for how to laminate for boomilevers? I'm new to the event and am not familiar with the process of lamination in this context.

What score usually places at Division C regionals? Our regional places top 10.

Please read this if you are new to boomilever. Laminate is used to connect compression and tension together.

At its simplest, it is just glueing.

Does anybody know boomilever designs people create at regionals, states, and nationals?

At regionals, people make mostly bad ones. At nationals, people make mostly good ones.
Seriously though, there’s such a wide range of designs that it’s really hard to say anything really specific. Obviously higher tournaments will have cleaner designs and way fewer people getting tiered. We’ll have to wait and see though to find out what those refined designs look like.
