Overall, I think that Karma sounds like a great idea, but what about new users or people who don't post very often? They may have some very good things to say about events, but their posts could be skimmed over by some people because they have a low Karma. They're Karma numbers would go up eventually, if they have useful things to say, but it may irritate them early on because people might become dubious of users with low Karma. It wouldn't be a major, torch-and-pitchfork-mob kind of problem, but you probably will get some complaints from people who want to be taken more seriously.

I personally look at all the new posts in most threads so if the karma system went into effect I guess I could go through all of them. It puts responsibility on other users but if it's used okay it would be great. I'm in favor of it.

Well if they post useful info of the kind that fleet graces us with, I for one would end up karmaing him at least at least 10 times for what he has contributed. I'm sure most people will karma if something is helpful and thus I don't think that will be a problem

Assertion 1: People will read all posts they are interested in, regardless of karma.
Assertion 2: Experienced users who remember to look may look at the karma field after they have read a particularly memorable (in a good way) or offensive (in a bad way) post.
Assertion 3: New users will probably ignore the karma field, and are unlikely to be reading through the whole forum anyways.
Advice: Learn to read the forums; remember the users; ban the spammers.

I completely agree, karma will help differentiate the people contributing from the spammers

cool, so the new threads are up. im interested to see how the WS forum is gonna work. i wasn't around for the old forum, but i hope it works well. I have a feeling the people will be making a lot of repeat topics (like how some people created a few threads of the same event) and the way the WS forum worked this past year was not bad at all. but thats just my opinion and we'll see how it goes.
good job on the switch though, congrats.
