is chatspeak allowed in this event? it probably answers that in the rules but i dont have my coaches rule book with me at the moment. i'll be coaching this event next year. although i didnt compete in this year i was the best on my team at this event during practices. i was the writer and my partner built the exact same thing that i had. all the other groups were WAY off. do you have any good tips for coaching this event that i might not know about?
In response to gneissisnice's post - you may have tied tekubix but i have the most non-spam posts on the board [not that i care..]

Chatspeak is not allowed. Everything has to be spelled correctly. However, there is nothing in the rules about omitting words completely. Thus, proper grammar is a terrible idea in this event, as adding unnecessary words means unnecessary time wasted writing. See the
Write It Do It Wiki for 4 strategies I put in.

Strategy #4 looks uncannily familiar.

Take it from eak227; he knows his stuff
very well.

Even though the official rules say that you can use those symbols, in New York, Mr. Miller, who is always the proctor, said that he disliked the rule and that any symbols would still get you disqualified. and i think that is how it should be. the event is useless if you are allowed to use the symbols. and i remember the styrofoam blocks and tooth picks, that was horrible.... to easy to be worth anything. and at new york states the woman had her baby in the room, crying the whole time.

lol, they should have rules the judges have to follow... like no crying babies in the room.

Hehe Galena, I totally misunderstood what you said for a second. I thought you meant she gave birth in the room while crying. I was like "What???? A judge gave birth in a scio room?!?!"
