Your coach is correct. You can not go "through" the can. That does not necessarily mean that he included going over the can. I still say that it would be a minor miracle of engineering if you could medal with a car going over the can.

BTW, I guess you can go over the can!
I looked at the rules, and I don't think I saw a rule against it.

That would offer all kinds of problems with having dual axles and everything. And not having a single axle means that the car can spin on a dime, which isn't good as you want it to go as straight as possible.

Or one could use wheels large enough that the axle passes over the can :D

The can is 7" high so the diameter of the wheel would have to be about 15" to have everything clear. The wheels must fit in 60Cm or 24". That would mean that one set of wheels would have to be inside of the other for at least a bit. so, the axles would have to be about 9" apart. Tough to make it go straight, especially being so top heavy. It will be slow and breaking a problem with a heavy car.
As I said, a minor engineering miracle to ribbon at state or national.

But...besides all the difficulties...there is no height limit.. Now, I just want to see a really tall car..XD

By this point, we'll be safer just going around the can. :)

I can see people using old LPs for wheels. But hold up, they're not even big enough...
