a great way to get LOTS of heat transfer, esp for a hi-wattage bulb is a parabolic mirror. It is difficult to make, and you have to get it done early (yeah right : ] ) in order to have time to aluminize it properly, but the light is focused on a specific point. You can make one by rinding down a glass plate in the middle and aluminizing the bottom to reflect the light. Many amateur astronomy books from the 1930s forward (less so now though) have info. Also there are probably some on Google Books. In a pinch you could do what my team did, and use an aluminum salad bowl. Of course, this was also the kid who made his collector look like a companion cube (Portal) as a joke...

hope this helped

With the state competition a couple days away, how are you guys feeling about this? I'm feeling good about the light collector (despite completely starting over last Monday), but the test worries me because I have no idea what to expect. Our regional test was about climate and graphing weather.

^I wish I saw the companion cube :P. See you friday morning at Clarence!

Congrats, ahage16. Now that it is over, will you tell us what kind of delta T you were getting?

We got 25.3 and our prediction was spot on. I am pretty sure we did horribly with the test because we didn't study and we forgot the binder of info, but luckily my partner watches discovery channel all the time, which helped a lot. Also all those Pickens' plan questions I knew from his commercial

We predicted 25.9 and I heard my partner say we got 2.5 over what we predicted. We looked at Pickens plan for about 5 minutes before deciding that we should BS those last 4 questions.
