I have no further information though; I'm just guessing that they dropped the word "egg" because the event won't have them, and also since the event is sort of a reincarnation of Cow A Bungee, which didn't include eggs. But I very well could be wrong.

Hm, thanks for pointing that out. Either way, if the rules stipulate that the event has to take place in a venue with some given height, we still won't be able to run it. If not, I'll gladly put it in the schedule, obviously.

Also, though of course I am not familiar with the precise facilities constraints you are facing, I don't think that a gym or outdoor area is necessary for a Bungee Drop event. For example, for Rotor Egg Drop (Division B) at nationals this year, they just used a multi-floor atrium and dropped the devices from the 3rd floor or something like that. Even a staircase could work, if you have people drop the devices from the top of the staircase to the bottom.

Hm, okay, thanks for the suggestion. That helps. I know Yale's campus very well, though, and right now I'm drawing a blank on such an atrium type of place. Though that's not to say no one else knows of a place, so we'll see. Still a long way to go. Thanks again though!

I lied. I got it!! ...but that's the atrium of a freshman dorm (Bingham, for those in the know), and no way will I be allowed to let a bunch of strangers into there. Wahhhh

No problem. Also, I am going to be a student at MIT next year, and I have found at least a dozen MIT and Harvard Science Olympiad alumni who expressed interest in trying to put together an MIT-Harvard Science Olympiad Tournament next year (or just an MIT Science Olympiad Tournament if we are unable to secure permission to use Harvard's name). Planning is still in the infantile stages, and I have no idea whether we will be able to pull it off. Regardless, I will be watching the Yale tournament closely. In fact, it costs only $6 round-trip on Megabus to travel from Boston to New Haven if you book tickets far enough in advance, and the Yale tournament is during the MIT Independent Activities Period, so we may be able to send a small contingent (possibly just me) to observe and help out. If transportation pans out, I would be interested in running an event at the Yale tournament. I will email you shortly to discuss this further. Thanks.

My understanding of this new Bungee event, whatever it may be, is that it would be similar to Cow-A-Bungee. According to my coach, given a set weight (determined at the competition), you need to stretch your cord and get it as close to the ground as possible. If you touch, you are second-tiered. He absolutely hates the event...when I told him it could be back next year, he just blew up.

He didn't mention anything about how high it needed to be. I think - if I remember correctly - that he did his competition runs at the top of a staircase, and tried to touch the bottom of it...though that may not be right, but...

That sounds interesting....for lack of a better word. We'll run it if there's somewhere we can do it, since it is an official national event.

Updates!

We will be running Bungee Drop. Tentatively, we will not be running Glider as we cannot find a suitable and more importantly, available, venue to fly the planes. Really sorry!
