Re: Mac or PC?
i did one and found nothing
i havent downloaded anything either
EDIT/ i turned off my computer and then turned it back on again and it is back to normal
I normally dont turn it off. What i do is shut the top [it's a laptop] which puts it into hibernation.

Re: Mac or PC?
When your computer does that again (and it undoubtedly will), press [ctrl + alt + del] and open the task manager. Go to the processes tab, then click on the CPU field once or twice so that you sort the data by CPU usage. If one of the processes is deciding to be really stupid (like, 75+ CPU usage), select it and press the End Process button. Then your PC should be back to normal, unless you have some other problem. But if restarting the computer fixes the problem, you probably have one of those runaway processes like 'dumprep' malfunctioning.

Re: Mac or PC?
Yeah...for some reason, people never reboot anymore.
It works wonders.
When I first started using a computer (12 years ago), the first thing you'd always do was reboot. It had this big button on the front that was right under the power button and would reboot it. Pressing the power button shut it down dead (like holding it does nowadays) and pressing restart would reboot it if it froze.
That was back when you had to wait until there was the "It is now safe to turn off your computer" screen and then press the power button.

Re: Mac or PC?
Ahhh, I remember those days. Although. for me, it was slightly more recent than 12 years ago, because I couldn't read then I was 2.
Of course, back then, they didn't have laptops that wanted to stay on forever. I will never come to understand who's bright idea it was to never clean out the RAM. After about 6 days of continuous runtime, my laptop gets a bit fuzzy, what with the 100s of processes that never seem to shut down when they're not being used. If you use vista, you know what I'm talking about. They have a whole application specifically for shutting down other applications, and another just for stuff like caps lock. You can go to sysconfig and shut down 90% of the startup programs and it will run fine.

Re: Mac or PC?
A lot of people used to keep their computers running continuously back then too, as supposedly it would shorten the life span if they were shut off and on all the time.
We keep our computers on continuously now out of habit...and out of convenience, but I do have them set to hibernate after an hour, to save energy.
My first computer had a 300 or so khz processor, 8 mb of RAM, and a 1 gb hard drive. Not to mention a 28.8k modem. And it was good for the time!
