Correction: you have to make one. The rules call it 'student built', and (I think) section 3c somethingorother says it can't be made of commercially produced parts.

There are many places to find a good hydrometer; I'm doing a more complex one this year because last year, mine didn't work (I think it was kind of intimidating, though, because I used different intervals).lsowaterquality wrote:Do you have to make your own hydrometer? Or are you allowed to buy one.

The hydrometer part shouldn't be too difficult as there is a considerably large range of acceptable answers.caseyotis wrote:There are many places to find a good hydrometer; I'm doing a more complex one this year because last year, mine didn't work (I think it was kind of intimidating, though, because I used different intervals).lsowaterquality wrote:Do you have to make your own hydrometer? Re: Water Quality B/C
I used the simple one that the Training PowerPoint features; don't use that unless you're an idiot like me who did everything in the last week! If you start now, you should be able to make the most complex thing there. I don't even know how I got it right (if I did). >.<cngu23 wrote:The hydrometer part shouldn't be too difficult as there is a considerably large range of acceptable answers.caseyotis wrote:There are many places to find a good hydrometer; I'm doing a more complex one this year because last year, mine didn't work (I think it was kind of intimidating, though, because I used different intervals).lsowaterquality wrote:Do you have to make your own hydrometer? Re: Water Quality B/C
The one we used last year was very, very simple, and it worked well whenever we used it. If precision was weighted more, more time-consuming salinometers would be more worth the effort, but I don't think you have to go crazy. There are other things that deserve more of your attention.
