I have a question concerning the MagLev dvd on the soinc store. I had originally posted information about it last year, but it seems that they have revised the dvd and added some 32 minutes. So, I was wondering if any one has gotten the new dvd and whether it is worth the money with the new information.

It appears to be the same DVD as last year, which I found to be completely useless.

I've always wondered what's on those DVD's... I can't think of anything that they could put on them...

From my experience with them, they show different designs from various years...not in enough detail for you to copy another device, but really just enough to possibly inspire some though. Personally, though, I think reading these forums and thinking for yourself are quite sufficient enough, and have found these dvds unnecessary.

Got my rules, but I'm confused about the vehicle width requirements. Hopefully chalkier or JBoyd can answer this since FAQ's haven't opened yet. According to the rules the vehicle may not exceed the width of the track's rails(except for propellers), but the width of the tracks will vary. Does this mean that if you build yourself a wider track, such as 3", that you can have a wider vehicle than one that would be allowed on a event-provided track of 2 9/16", or someone that had a 2" track?

And also going with the exception of propellers in the width requirement, if you have a ducted fan, can that exceed the width? Or is it only propellers?

Standard caveat about this not being the place for official clarifications, etc, etc... Yes, if you have a wider track you can have a wider vehicle. Regarding the ducted fan, note rule 3.i limits the diameter of the duct to something that is typically narrower than the track width.

Don't have my rules yet, but just to check: we do not have to bring our own track, do we? My school already has the old 8-ft track, and it a pain to move at all, much less to a competition.

The ES is required to provide one track for competitors that don't have their own.

My 8 ft track breaks into 2 4 foot sections so its still a pain to transport but ill deal to have a constant track to use

One plus on building your own: you can make the track rails shift so you can vary your width if you want to play with other sized cars. Only down size ive experienced (possibly because im a little obsessive) is every few runs you have to check that it didnt shift at all. Might look into new fasening devices.

But what if I have two ducted fans next to each other?
