Re: General Mission Possible
Neither of those require a liquid though. They can be accomplished either via a granular solid, or via air (pneumatics).DigiDuncan wrote:

Maybe I don't LIKE pneumatics! JK. But, pouring water down a tube is easier than build some weird pnuematic whatchamicallit.chalker wrote:Neither of those require a liquid though. They can be accomplished either via a granular solid, or via air (pneumatics).DigiDuncan wrote:

"Use a lever with an IMA greater than 1 in a manner that requires an IMA greater than 1 to cause the next action."
What does this mean? Howdo you use an IMA to cause a next action?

Re: General Mission Possible
It doesn't say "use the IMA," you can't really "use" a measurement. It does, however say to use a lever with an IMA greater than 1. Essentially, magnify the force at the end of the lever such that you need it (an example of this would be lifting a 500g mass with a 100g mass applied to a lever with an IMA greater than 5).XJcwolfyX wrote:"Use a lever with an IMA greater than 1 in a manner that requires an IMA greater than 1 to cause the next action."

Re: General Mission Possible
hey guys could i get a quick opinion on this. i did submit a official clarification but with the task concerning pouring granular material from a lower container to a higher container do u think it wuld be okay if the container with the granular material starts lower that the other container but then i raise it higher than pour it into the container. again i submitted a clarification but i just thought it wuld be better if i got an opinion thnx

Re: General Mission Possible
so basiclly what tht task is telling you to do is have a lever with an ima greater than one and have it use that power or force in a way that distributes a action that has a ima greater then 1? to simplify activate a lever with an ima greater than 1chalker7 wrote:It doesn't say "use the IMA," you can't really "use" a measurement. I'm not trying to be difficult, but what makes you think the scenario you propose is not legal?rmp509 wrote:hey guys could i get a quick opinion on this. i did submit a official clarification but with the task concerning pouring granular material from a lower container to a higher container do u think it wuld be okay if the container with the granular material starts lower that the other container but then i raise it higher than pour it into the container. again i submitted a clarification but i just thought it wuld be better if i got an opinion thnx

Re: General Mission Possible
Kind of, but the important part of the rule (which may be confusing) is probably "in a manner that requires..." It is relatively easy to build a lever with an IMA greater than 1 (just shift the fulcrum away from the center on a 1st class lever). But it is much different to actually utilize that IMA in a productive manner. For example, you might use a 100g mass applied to a 5 IMA lever to lift a 25g mass, but you didn't need the IMA of 5 to complete the task. However, if the mass you were lifting was ~500g, you would have needed the large IMA.rmp509 wrote: so basiclly what tht task is telling you to do is have a lever with an ima greater than one and have it use that power or force in a way that distributes a action that has a ima greater then 1? to simplify activate a lever with an ima greater than 1

Re: General Mission Possible
oh yeah i guess i forgot to mention that srry. I was wondering if it was legal to pour the material from a higher container if that container starts lower but then i raise it up.chalker7 wrote:I'm not trying to be difficult, but what makes you think the scenario you propose is not legal?rmp509 wrote:hey guys could i get a quick opinion on this. i did submit a official clarification but with the task concerning pouring granular material from a lower container to a higher container do u think it wuld be okay if the container with the granular material starts lower that the other container but then i raise it higher than pour it into the container. again i submitted a clarification but i just thought it wuld be better if i got an opinion thnx
