That sounds like a good idea, except for the fact that I hate graphs. My partner would understand it, 'cause she's a math genius, but I'd get it confused, and since I'm the writer that wouldn't be a good idea. So we just use left, right, above, below, etc.

EDIT: Actually, most people probably are likely to get confused with the coordinate system. It's hard to keep track of them, especially if it's a thing that isn't exactly facing one way, and can be moved several different ways in different directions (wow, that was a really bad description.)

My partner and I limited coordinates to legos, where you literally had a plane of points to work with. I don't think using coordinates (especially in 3 dimensions) is a very good idea unless you have a reference point like lego bumps. There are just better, more accurate systems out there.

It wouldn't work for us either, but it's just an option for two math nerds who're doing WIDI together...

Bottom line: coordinates are difficult to work with. Even if you're both super good at math. I think I'm going to stick with the strategy me and my partner have used for the past two years.

What do you guys expect the building materials to be this year, Legos, Knex, or something else? :?:

It really depends on the tournament; you should be ready for anything.

What would you suggest practicing with? (lego's, Knex...)

Anything that you can put together and build. There are many things that the event supervisor could use. I believe they have some examples on the rule sheets.

i was in this event last year, at first we practiced a lot with Legos and Kinects but then we went to competition and we had to put together this abstract collage made of folded paper, paper cups, paper plates and thumb tacks. and one year my friend did this event and she had to make something out of clay so make sure u practice with different materials not only commercial materials like Legos and such. Good Luck! :D

My partner and I were sadly unprepared for Regionals AND State last year. We learned to use different materials the hard way.
This year, however, we're determined to dominate the competition like we did two years ago. And so we are practicing with any random stuff we can find (not that hard to do).
