..Did you really just ask that? =P
Okay, well first, build a running vehicle. Then, test it until you get it to travel to each distance interval quickly. Then, once you think it is consistent, start timing it for about 15 runs or so. Then, average the times. This will give you the predicted time of your vehicle.

Please read the Mousetrap Vehicle Wiki first, then ask specific questions here. We can't help you if you ask questions like that.

This really isn't a stupid question at all...

I can't say if it is the best method, but a good method is to record all of your data points in a graphing calculator or laptop. This will allow you to do various regressions on your data and will allow you to pick the regression that fits best. Using that regression, you can interpolate between data points to get the exact distance you are being asked to traverse.

Now, the only way this method will be effective is if you do a lot of data points over the full range of possible distances you may be asked to travel.

If you do not know how to use regression analysis or input data into a graphing calculator, a math teacher can almost certainly help you with that. Math teachers are usually good at knowing and/ or figuring out how to use a graphing calculator.

Note: because this event has so few possible distances, it may be easier to just collect data from the few specific points that you know you will have to hit.
