hmm seems to be a question of should we focus on the individual or the team.

the team, science olympiad is about winning and going on, but nobody can do all 23 events so you have to work together, study etc.
(although i do think an allstar sounds pretty cool)

The best idea is to base events around the schedule, but unfortunately, our regional schedule usually isnt posted until about January. And thats bad, cause regionals is in February. The state schedule is out, so we've been trying to base it off that, but since we dont know our team numbers, the only conflicts we know for sure are ED and astronomy, env. chem and tech. problem solving, and herpetology and fossils ( fot the last one).

The schedule for E.L.I. came out in January exactly once, in Jan. 2007. The regional coordinator was new that year and was replaced the following year, although not until late November; the schedule went up almost as soon as the new coordinator took over. It has been up on the web for about two months now. Your teams will be in the last block, probably in the high 30's - low 40's.

What if a state had all regionals build an all-star team composed of the best in each event from the teams that would not make it to states?

Also I was hearing something about this but I guess it is not the case but I feel it should be.....

The teams going to nationals from each state should take some kids who did well in the state onto their team to fill in some weaknesses, and give talented individuals a chance to compete in the national arena.

I think the idea of an allstar team is interesting, but I just don't think it's a good one... SO's supposed to be partially about teamwork, right? Imagine how an allstar team would split teams up!

Under the current rules, this is not allowed. All team members must attend the same school! On the other hand, would you volunteer to step back and allow someone from another school to take your place if your team were going to nationals?

Not me, I think it would be cool to do an interantional Science Olympiad. But that gets extremely complicated as to how you get on the team
