The apparent reason for Science Olympiad is:
"To create a passion for learning science by supporting elementary and secondary Science Olympiad tournaments at building, district, county, state and national levels with an emphasis on teamwork and a commitment to excellence.

To improve the quality of K-12 science education throughout the nation by changing the way science is perceived and the way it is taught (with an emphasis on problem solving and hands-on, minds-on constructivist learning practices). This goal is accomplished through in-depth core curriculum training workshops and the distribution of curriculum materials.

To celebrate and recognize the outstanding achievement of both students and teachers in the areas of science and technology by awarding thousand of certificates, medals, trophies and scholarships.

To promote partnerships among community, businesses, industry, government and education."

Alas, many people have fallen to that deception. We have many double-agents trying infiltrating this organization. Only one has survived to tell the tale, but he soon died in the SciOly assassinations. But he did successfully find out that the true goal of this corrupt organization is to promote bad study and work skills by inducing procrastination of America's brightest children, thus making her fall behind in the global race for economic domination. Needless to say, it was founded by the Soviet Union as a last attempt to bring down America. Since the Soviet Union collapsed, a myriad of Anti-American terrorist groups and countries is funding Science Olympiad. SciOly.org 's members are trying to bring this organization down. This is dangerous work, hence the fact that many of our agents have no posts. In 2009, Al-Qaeda infiltrated this website and bombed one of our recruitment centers, causing a bloodbath. There were no survivors. The traitor was SiegeLord, a former KGB agent. One of our most beloved member and admin was a spy! DarkSabre quickly banished him from SciOly.org, but the damage has already been done. But he is back for revenge. Later, he hacked through our system and posted "8-)" on the day his birthday. He was also responsible of the Wiki attack, forcing the Wiki being locked from editing. But I have spoken too much. Read this and let it fall into the abyss of the General Chat where even search engines will dare not prowl!

Okay, Okay, it's all a joke. Please don't get mad at me!

Wait until Matthew gets back from his overseas combat zone. Then he'll clean things up royally-- corruption ring, annoying parents, people who can't use an apostrophe correctly, post-count inflators, and then Brains Trust can return to its original task of taking over the entire scientific world.

And that should do more than enough to cover all of our building events. If we do one more, we should have enough to make up for registration for Regionals and state. We get no funding from our school. So...ya....and as for trips to nationals, we'll cross that bridge WHEN we get there.

2. Study events take 0 funding, only your time. Dedication and hard work. And either way the majority of events are study events.

3. White kids? HAVE YOU SEEN SOLON/TROY (CALI)??? Some of the top placing schools at nats, majority Asian. What have you to say about that eh?

4. I can't say i don't get mad sometimes about not being able to make it to nats because everyone on my team honestly can't bring themselves to be as dedicated as myself, but i've found complaining about anything in this world does nothing but make you look selfish and unwilling to work harder.

5. Science olympiad is a team effort. If there isn't at least a majority of your team willing to work, forget it. Some of the kids on this forum will tell you that you should just work harder, but they couldn't begin to understand the half of it. You can't change the priorities of 14 other kids. You can try to rub off on them, maybe if you work harder they might. But they have to have the vision and goals that are absolutely crucial to doing well in sci oly. When you have a team of intelligent hard working kids who care about science olympiad, money couldn't matter less. When you have a team of very few dedicated members, and a majority lazy, unwilling kids, you have very little power in determining how they do.

All im saying is, i'm tired of hearing all this hardwork BS for making it to nats as a TEAM, because i work as hard as i can, aiming to get 1st at state in every event, but my teammates won't. And i know that they never will. If your school has diligent members who are willing to put in the time, i envy you, but i suggest you work as hard as you can to make it to nats because any TEAM that is willing to put in the work can make it to nats.
here here!!!!!!!!!I know exactly what you mean!! :D

The middle school wins every year and I don't think they get any money at all.

Though some like to claim that State is rigged because it's in our city, bout 15-20 minutes away. But that is a silly concern really...

It's not rigged guys. If you want to win, study harder. That's all I can say.

I can speak against the conspiracy theory from personal experience. Bearden Middle School (take note, this is a public school) has held State in Tennessee for the past 15 years at least.
"If my knowledge of mechanical engineering serves me right, applying significant rotational torque to achieve maximum velocity will yield a positive result!"
"Y'mean something good might happen if I get the wheel to spin fast enough?"
"Isn't that what I just said?"
