ii. The following topics may be included: Basic information on physics of magnetism, common uses of magnets, medical uses of magnets, superconductors.

Thanks! I read the rules way more times than I care to count, and somehow missed that... There was lots of info on magnetic fields on our test.

balsa/foam. foam you can do blocks, balsa use thin strips.
see if you can find a way to stabilize it, too. balance alone won't do it.

It doesn't really even have to be completly balanced. it just needs to not rub the sides. If tilting it one way actually makes it go straight, go with unbalanced.

Even still, I can never get mine not to touch the sides for the whole run. Any tips?
Also, is it worth carrying two batteries? The stupid 9vs don't power the fans for more than a minute or two.

Batteries may only be wired in parallel. And just get it to rub sides as little as possible.

Right, which is why carrying two of them would make it last twice as long. The tiny variability in the MagLev tracks always messes things up, though :-/.

The top three run times were 2.07s, 2.25s and 2.37s at WLI regionals - the test was rather easy and didn't really affect the score. Basically, it was the fastest that won.
