Huh, for some reason I forgot we had a state website, too.
Thank you
Also, on an unrelated note, I heard somewhere that charcoal was impermeable. Anyone know if this true?

Thank you
What is everybody using for their impermeable layers (if they have one)? Just clay?

Yes clay works fine. If you bring clay though you should also bring a rolling pin to flatten out the clay faster.

NC Clarifications:
2. Event Parameters: Event Leaders will NOT provide water. Competitors must bring their own water, to be added during station 4.
3.c. Station 3 will not be offered. Aquifers should be built ahead of time and brought to the competition.
Does anyone know if this is only North Carolina, or if it applies to all states?
I am from pennsylvania and the event supervisors provide water. They do the same in Ohio.

Also, is Aquifers offered in other regions for regionals? For NY, it's only for states, so the work that I'm doing on this event is minimal.

Do we have to filter out the contaminant in our aquifer at the competition, or just demonstrate the contamination?

That would depend on the competition they may ask you to show that they may not
but more than likely they will as it is a important topic for groundwater today with issue of pollution

When I was asked to demonstrate the pollution, we did not have to filter it out, and still got all the points for it. But I would read through the guidelines at your competition to be sure.

Remember, the judge sheet may have a second point in the demonstration category for Remediation if contaminant removal is "clearly" shown. That means you're safest if you clearly show filtering from, say, red "contaminated" water to "potable" water. You have 10 minutes--which is more than enough time--so go for it. It's better to be safe than sorry.
