ehhhh that was pretty mid imo, writing was a bit childish and very liberal in how much information it disclosed so early on
if you want really good space opera you should read ninefox gambit and a memory called empire, and if you liked the mystery-solving aspect of it then reading gideon the ninth -> harrow the ninth would be a good experience

Yessss We Were Liars!!!
donjuanpond,
to be quite honest I actually liked the "childish" and casual writing. I think the way he gave away information was very interesting and I did enjoy reading through it and seeing how everything was connected(keeping this vague to avoid spoilers). Thank you for the recommendations, though!

I have an entire spreadsheet of books I want to read! It’s a lot of political and historical books so heads up. I even included (legal) free versions of some of the texts!

Hmmm stuff I've read recently that I've really liked?
-- Years of Rice and Salt by Kim Stanley Robinson --- alternate history fic with a buncha little stories about different regions. Really APWH-vibes-y but in a good way
-- American Ramble: A Walk of Memory and Renewal by Neil King --- Nonfiction; guy who walked from DC to New York, narrates his trip with historic context. I found it really cool. I read it during transfers when taking buses home from college.
-- Bromeliad Trilogy by Terry Pratchett -- Indescribable. Not about bromeliads.
-- The Graveyard Book by Neil Gayman -- kinda intense at times; still really interesting though. I love this man's writing style

I love Neil Gaiman's books! I read "House of the Scorpion" which was similar to The Graveyard Book. Both were pretty creepy.
On a rereading binge right now... Going through Arc of a Scythe, These Violent Delights, and Throne of Glass in that order. Also going to read some new books! Halfway through Hitchhiker's (the moldy towels are so not it but it's still a good book), and starting on Truly Devious after everything else.
