Re: Events That Hurt!
I hit a woman in the head with my plane in BLG once. You can only have so many teams in such a small space without hitting anyone else's balloon strings. Me and my teammates also recieved many burns while setting up dangerous circuits in Mission Possible and quite a few cuts from Xacto knives.
Other than that, the most dangerous thing I've done is climb trees at State. My arm looks like I drew red lines in marker. Unfortunately, they're scabs from being sliced by twigs.

Re: Events That Hurt!
Well here's a story, (a true one!) the second time I was ever in Forensics this year, at Regional’s, my partner and I were all pumped that we were going to place and surprise everyone… well we get into the test room and start the test. My partner started testing powders while I analyzed the blood and fingerprints. It was all going fine… until my partner screamed, I turned and our Bunsen burner was on fire!
The chord that connected it to the gas was melting leaving a sticky black pool on the table. We called over the supervisor and one of his assistant’s came and she said “oh goodness… let me get the supervisor” so he come over and said “That doesn’t look to good…” My partner and were like “NO DIP!” the supervisor just kind of stood there so we turned off the gas, and put out the flame and then the supervisor told us he didn’t have any other Bunsen burners yet so we’d have to wait about 20mins for him to get one. So we said that it was fine and we went to test our water samples… well… we are about to test our first one when someone comes behind me and bumps me, causing me to knock over ALL our water samples.
So we call over the supervisor again and he says we’ll have to wait 5mins for him to get new water. So we wipe up some of the water until he come over to us and gave us new samples, then we realize we haven’t’ done chromatography yet! So I start that and then decide that since we already know who did it (or we thought we did) we would just go ahead and start the write up, we start the write up and then the supervisor came and said we could start testing the powders again. My partner turns and knocks over the chromatography ruining our results! So with 5minutes left while she did the powders I redid the chromatography.
At this point there is less then a minute left and I make the comment “wait… do we need to clean up?” (keep in mind the only other time I had done forensics there had been no crime or lab just a written test so no clean up was required) and my partner who’s been in Forensics a few times and has done plenty of labs says “Of course we have to clean up, we lose points if we don’t.” We both turned to our lab station at the powders spilt, the water everywhere the stick black goop and the supervisor says “30 seconds!” We started booking it even faster than before and cleaned up everything and I realized I threw away our chromatography so I dig through the trash and grab it staple it to our test and turn it in to the supervisor just as my partner puts the last thing in our box and the supervisor says “Times up!”
We couldn’t believe we had finished the test and were certain we’d get last place… we ended up getting 2nd place.

Re: Events That Hurt!
Our team had to leave on a bus at 4 am to get to state. I slept as much as possible, but for forensics, my first test, I was half asleep. Luckily this was the test that I was going to suck at anyways, lol.
Anyways, we had to staple the chromatography papers to the test. I got the stapler and somehow managed to staple it to the stack of the entire test. I was so asleep, lol. the ppl standing there saw me and offfered to help and I was embarrassed and tried to get it myself. I pulled the other papers out of the stapler and managed to catch the staple and make my thumb bleed. It was hilarious, luckily I was more awake for my other tests.

Re: Events That Hurt!
For mission, we use these really small balloons that usually require a hand pump to inflate as they have a uber high pressure inside them. Unfortunately however, we do not have those pumps, and I was the only one on my 3 man team who could actually blow them up without a pump. So, right before we impounded the device at state, I had to blow up about 5 of these, and on the last one I started to feel incredibly light headed and promptly collapsed on the floor, almost passing out. In retrospect it was quite hilarious as if I had indeed passed out, our team would have been in much trouble as I had to be at an event 20 minutes after.
Also, during testing heating elements for one of the steps way before competition, I tried using a 12 volt battery for this nichrome line, just for kicks, which then promptly ignighted and blew up, searing a bit of my hand and a bunch of things around it. Oh mission, how reckless I am with it...

Re: Events That Hurt!
Me and another teammate had the "great" idea of shooting a peace from a boomalever that was solidly built, if I remember right it was over 1/4 x 1/4 with many sticks laminated together. We found a strong rubber band that couldn't be used for Wright stuff anymore and we doubled over the rubber band a few times to increase the pull. Then we shot it at each other and on one hit me 1/2 inch from hitting me in the eye, we joke about it now but we think that it may have been strong enough to cause me to go blind, lucky it didn't that was the day before we left for state.

I see why, though, I've nearly gotten hit with our team's trajectory device a few times before. Beware of flying tennis balls!
Egg-o-naut can be hazardous, too. One time at a meet I was at, the launcher malfunctioned and our rocket shot nearly sideways. It flew about 5 feet over our heads. It was kind of scary! (But it was all good in the end, they let us re-launch because the malfunction was not our fault at all.)
this is not me gettting hurt and waz only a close call, anyway, when rockets waz normal, w/o egg about 4 years ago i launched, the parachute failed, and well let just say after having the judge act the way he did to my team it waz fun to see him react...
